NEWS ABOUT SWINE FLU VACCINATION PROGRAMME
20.01.10
The first wave of swine flu vaccinations for the highest priority groups has taken place. We are currently in the process of vaccinating the next priority group, which is children aged between 6 months and 5 years of age. Parents/Guardians of children in this group have been contacted directly by us either by letter or telephone, offering the opportunity to attend specially scheduled vaccination clinics.
We have not yet been advised whether we will be in receipt of further supplies of vaccine.
20.11.09
The vaccination programme for H1N1 “Swine Flu” influenza virus has started. We received our first batch of vaccines in November and have been contacting patients who are in the highest priority groups to arrange for them to come and be vaccinated. Supplies are limited at the moment, so please don’t contact the surgery requesting the vaccine unless you have been asked to do so by telephone call or letter. We have been very careful in selecting the patients who are in the highest priority group, so if you have not been contacted it is unlikely that you are in this group.
As more vaccine becomes available, other priority groups will be called. We understand that the next priority group will be children aged 6 months to 5 yrs. Parent/guardians of these children will be contacted in due course about this second wave of vaccinations when more vaccines become available.
Please understand that the vaccine comes in multi-dose vials which, once opened must be used, so to avoid wastage we are not able to offer the vaccine on an ad hoc basis in the surgery.
2/11/09
We have been advised that we should receive the first delivery of H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine on 3/11/09. There is a limited supply and at present we have been instructed to give the vaccine to eligible patients in a strict priority order, starting with pregnant women and children in defined ‘at risk’ categories. The vaccine is only available in multi-dose vials, which once opened must be used within a 24 hour period. Therefore, to minimize wastage, the limited supply of vaccine will be administered at The Pines Medical Centre in Acharacle. We will be telephoning patients individually to invite attendance at special swine flu clinics.
We expect to receive further supplies of swine flu vaccine in the coming weeks and will be contacting patients in the next priority groups as supplies become available.
